An overseas move has more than one timetable. Your travel, the shipment, document checks and access to the new home may not line up on the same day. Start with the destination and your household inventory, then build a plan for the goods you need immediately and the items that can arrive later.

Decide what is worth shipping

Compare the items you want to take with the space and practical needs of the new home. Separate accompanied baggage, goods for shipment and items staying in India. Share dimensions for large furniture and identify fragile or unusual belongings early.

Check destination requirements before packing

Customs and import requirements depend on the destination and your circumstances. Ask for the current document list and confirm restricted items before they enter a carton. Use the destination customs authority for applicable rules; another family’s move is not a substitute for checking your own shipment.

Keep a clear inventory

Use descriptions that identify what is inside each carton. Record valuable or unusual items with appropriate supporting information. Make sure the names, addresses and shipment details supplied to the moving team are consistent with the documents required for the movement.

Compare air and sea arrangements

Discuss the proposed mode, shipment size, handling stages and expected schedule. Ask what happens between collection and final delivery and which parts are included in the quotation. Keep an essentials plan for the period before the main consignment arrives.

Agree the responsibilities at each end

Find out who coordinates origin packing, shipment documents, customs handling and destination delivery. Ask how you will be contacted if more information is needed. Clarify destination charges, access conditions, unpacking and any storage before confirming the scope.

Prepare documents and essentials separately

Carry the original documents, medicines and immediate-use belongings needed for your travel and arrival. Keep digital copies of the moving records accessible. Tell the packing team which items must stay with you and leave those items outside the collection area.

Allow for the receiving address

Share the final address and receiving contact as soon as available. Check building access, lift arrangements and where goods can be unloaded. If you cannot receive the shipment immediately, ask about storage, charges and the process for arranging later delivery.
