Prepare Your Car or Bike for Transport
Updated 3 October 2026 · DZ Cargo moving guide
Vehicle transport starts with a clear handover. The team needs to know which vehicle is moving, how it can be collected and who will receive it. You need a record of its condition and a written understanding of the transport arrangement. Work through these details before the pickup date.
Describe the vehicle accurately
Share the make, model and whether it can start, steer and move normally. Mention modifications, low clearance, loose accessories or any fault that could affect loading. Ask how a vehicle that does not run would be handled before confirming the booking.
Confirm the collection and delivery points
A transporter may need a suitable loading area rather than the space immediately outside your home. Discuss access, the handover location and the people who will be present. Keep their contact details available and tell the team if the delivery address changes.
Make a condition record
Clean the vehicle enough to see its exterior and photograph it from several angles. Record existing marks, visible damage and relevant readings during handover. Review the condition record with the collecting team and retain a copy so the delivery inspection has a clear starting point.
Remove loose personal belongings
Check the boot, glovebox, storage compartments and any luggage attached to a bike. Discuss removable accessories with the team. Do not assume a vehicle booking includes the contents stored inside it, and keep valuables and personal documents with you.
Ask for the document and preparation checklist
Confirm the identification, vehicle documents and authorisation needed for this particular movement. Follow the agreed guidance for keys, fuel level, alarms and accessories. For an electric vehicle or an unusual model, ask about any specific handling requirements instead of applying a generic preparation rule.
Review the transport and cover
Ask which transport arrangement is proposed, what the quotation includes and how updates will be shared. Review the applicable insurance documentation, covered value and claim procedure. Keep the booking details, payment receipt and handover record together.
Inspect before completing delivery
Meet the vehicle in a place where you can inspect it safely. Compare its visible condition with the pickup record and confirm the keys and agreed items have arrived. Record any concern promptly with the delivery team and follow the relevant reporting procedure.
Book the vehicle as its own part of the move
If household goods are moving too, confirm whether the vehicle follows the same schedule or a separate arrangement. Send both requirements when requesting car and bike transportation. This makes pickup coordination and your own travel plans easier to organise.
