How to Choose Packers and Movers for Your Move
Updated 3 October 2026 · DZ Cargo moving guide
Choosing a mover is easier when you compare the work behind the quotation. A low headline price tells you little if one company includes packing and another is quoting only for transport. Start with a clear item list, then use the same questions with every company you consider.
Check who you are booking
Look for a consistent company name, contact number and address across the website, quotation and payment instructions. Ask the company to explain any difference. If an approval or registration matters for your employer’s reimbursement, check the details required by your employer before paying.
Give every mover the same inventory
Include bulky furniture, appliances, fragile items, storage cupboards and goods from balconies. Share both addresses, floors and access restrictions. Send photographs when they help explain the job. Comparing different inventories produces different prices even when the distance is identical.
Ask what the quotation includes
Check the packing materials, labour, vehicle arrangement, loading, unloading and delivery work. If you need furniture dismantling, reassembly or unpacking, ask for those items to be stated. Ask how changes to the inventory or access will be handled rather than relying on a verbal ‘everything included’.
Look beyond a star rating
Read a selection of detailed reviews and consider what the customer actually booked. A review about a small local move may not describe the same work as an intercity office relocation. Pay attention to explanations of communication, handling and how problems were addressed, without treating any single review as proof of a guaranteed result.
Understand insurance separately
Ask who provides the insurance, which goods and journey are covered, the declared value and the claim procedure. Read exclusions and any excess or deductible. A statement about careful packing is not the same as an insurance policy; keep the relevant documents with your booking records.
Confirm the delivery arrangement
Discuss whether the move uses a dedicated vehicle or another agreed arrangement, who will coordinate delivery and when an arrival estimate will be updated. Tell the mover about keys, lift booking, parking and entry permissions at the receiving address. These details affect the handover even after the journey is complete.
Keep the booking record together
Save the inventory, quotation, payment receipt, contact details and any agreed changes. Confirm the pickup date and who should be present. Before collection, record the visible condition of valuable or fragile belongings and keep documents and personal valuables with you.
